"There are dark times
When Earth seems to have lost all hope, is when the most glorious sound or vision will cross the world of humankind, some will hear it in the surf of the ocean, or see it in a star dancing across the night sky. Some say that is when the eunuch choir sings. No one on Earth has ever directly seen or heard the eunuch choir because the radiant beauty of the members, and the purity of their voices were likened to watching a solar eclipse with ones naked eyes, it would burn the retinas of the mind in seconds. On the night of the lunar eclipse when the moon tripled and reddened in the sky, the night the Boston Red Socks broke the curse and earned their place in immortality, a new member joined the choir. It had been hundreds of years since that honor had been bestowed. Each member would arrive in their own best fantasy so this is how Bryan joined the choir. BBOYs STORY How he had the guts to keep the Doctors appointment he couldnt quite figure out. He was so nervous he felt clammy and sick. Now that he was here he wouldnt back out, although in many ways it no longer made any sense. One day he was a breathtaking ten year old boy with a smile that would melt ice a mile away. The next he was a gawky teenager with the angst of insecurity that is heavier than a breaking voice. During this time he found himself become obsessed with one thought, and this was the thought that led him to this office today, Even though the rough years were over and he had made his life a success, he still hadnt totally lost the desire to re-make a part of himself. The medical office was in an industrial park. He had to drive around a few times to find the building which was on a side road edging up to woodland that had yet to be developed. It had been pouring rain all day, and the weather seemed to add to his anxiety. The building was non-descript, like any medical complex, more function than form. He parked his car, just as the rain abetted, which was good as he didnt have an umbrella. As he walked towards the building he wondered if he had turned the lights off, he looked back at his car but it was covered in a soft mist, and he couldnt quite see it. Odd he thought as he reached in his wallet for the appointment card. He felt the raised letters, and continued on. The embossed letters were in a pure silver ink which Bryan had been surprised to see when it had arrived in the mail. The plain envelope, which didnt indicate the letter was mailed from a Doctors office held an appointment card that looked like the acceptance note inside one of Donald Trumps wedding invitations. When Bryan pushed open the office door he was amazed. Instead of the sterile waiting room with two bored receptionists sitting at the sign-in desk, talking on the phone as they poked at a computer, which was what he expected, he was dazzled. He felt overwhelmed in all his senses The room was out of a Westelm catalog The place was comfort and design, and something beyond that. The paintings and abundant sculpture were all of physically perfect men and boys, looking like they were framed by the hands of masters, yet they were not works that he could ever recall seeing. He would remember them if he had. He barely had a chance to appreciate the art when it dawned on him that the bodies displayed in all of the treasures were missing part of its genitals. There were also so many water features in the room that he wondered how so many fountains could fit in, and yet the room still seemed spacious, and the music being piped in was glorious. He looked around for the reception desk and was surprised when a beautiful young man appeared with a golden notebook. Bryan, youre too early, well never mind I suppose there is a reason you were in such a rush to get here. I have an appointment card. But I can wait, is the Doctor not in? The man took the card from him gently. You were not supposed to have this until 2055, what a mistake, who would do such a thing! Well now that youre here we cant send you back. You mean 2055 military Time? that would seem very odd to see the Doctor so late at night. Bryan was starting to feel unsettled. The man caressed his arm, making him feel warm and confident, and taking away his anxieties. Dont worry Bryan, now that youre here youll see Doctor H. Make yourself comfortable in the waiting room, the Doctor will see you soon. Can I get you something to drink? My name is Danny by the way and Im here to help you adjust Maybe just some water. My pleasure, Ill be right back. Bryan watched Danny retreat. He moved as if he were soaring, but that didnt make sense, it had to be the heady perfume from the golden flowers that grew by the fountain. Bryan was quickly distracted by a movement across the room, there wasnt anyone else around, but he realized that the wall had turned into a mirror, and he was looking at himself. He was the one moving closer and closer to see his own image because something wasnt right, he looked so young, so perfect, the way he had wished to be when he was 17 and had the fantasy about becoming a eunuch. Yet that was no longer his desire. He wanted to reach back to the others he left behind when he entered this building. His mind was on his friends and family. At that a door opened and several of the most radiant people he ever met came out to greet him. Somehow they looked familiar, and they embraced him in welcome. Bryan, you never learned patience did you The oldest of the group said kindly You wanted everything at once; well now that you are here we embrace you. You are here early, but no matter someday, in fact for you it will seem like tomorrow you will be with those who are now lost without you, and in great despair that you are temporarily gone from them. In the mean time you will live out all your fantasies, and you can communicate that you are fine. They will know it when they think about you, and they feel the warmth of your memory. The first thing in order is you always wanted to have a beautiful voice, well it is now the time of the year when the eunuch choir sings and you have been asked to join them. When the first snow falls and the night is crystal, those on earth will feel a sense of peace, but those in the stars will hear . |
