Many centuries ago in ancient Hawaii, Prince Huahuala'a [sacred testicles] the older son of King Kameloa [Tall Man] was madly in love with a commoner who was not only a commoner, but a keiki manuahi, a bastard, who was known only by his well-deserved nickname, Ulenuiloa [very long penis]. This raised a serious problem. It was not kapu for Huahuala'a to have sex with another male, but it was very much kapu for Ulenuiloa to have sex with another male, and most especially with an ali'i. The two youths had to be very careful and discrete lest their forbidden affair be known. Even so, they were running a serious risk of offending the gods inasmuch as Ulenuiloa was breaking kapu.

   To make matters even worse, Huahuala'a was submissive and took the passive role in the relationship. Had his lover been another ali'i, this would not have been kapu, but submitting his body to a keiki manuahi was self-degradation and a pollution of his consecrated body.

   Without explaining his reasons, Huahuala'a asked his father if it would be possible for his friend, Ulenuiloa to be ennobled. King Kameloa rejected the idea. "Nobody knows who his father is." "But that is just my point, father. For all we know we know, his father might have been an ali'i." " Even if true, that changes nothing. I cannot bestow ali'i rank on Ulenuiloa (an obscene name) son of...Whoever. I don't mind your reaming his behind or having him suck you. I had a male lover myself at your age, though he was ali'i, but do not EVER submit to Ulenuiloa . That is kapu, and a most serious form of kapu. It is a grave offense to the gods.You are destined to be a king. Your testicles are consecrated as the vessels of the seed which will carry on our royal line. Your body must never be polluted by the seed of a commoner. I think you should see less of Ulenuiloa. " 

    "Father, I love him." "That is just what I fear. Consider the consequences, if your love for him led you to submit to him and you were caught. Your unworthy lover would be put to death and you, having defiled your consecrated body, would no longer be fit to propagate the line of the divine kings and you would be deprived of your once sacred testicles."

   Huahuala'a was terrified. Clearly his father suspected the nature of his relationship to Ulenuiloa and would probably have them watched. If only he could have had Ulenuiloa ennobled, much would have been overlooked.What was to be done ? Huahuala'a would have been quite willing to abdicate the succession to the kingship in favor of his younger brother Keikialoha [ beloved boy].If it came to that, he would even be willing to forfeit his manhood.

   Seeking out Ulenuiloa, the prince discussed the matter with

 him."I couldn't let you make such a sacrifice for me" said Ulenuiloa. "I'll go away."  "NOT WITHOUT ME, you won't" cried Huahuala'a. "I can't live without you."  "What, then" asked Ulenuiloa. "Let's flee together" said Huahuala'a impulsively. "I know ! Mokukapu. [the Sacred Island ]" "WHAT ?" cried Ulenuiloa. "That place is kapu even to you. Nobody but the kahuna [priests] ever goes there. "  "Ipo [sweetheart], we're breaking kapu anyhow, so what difference does it make where ?"

   Ulenuiloa was quiet and thoughtful for a while. "You know I have an ama [outrigger canoe]; you've been sailing with me. We'll just go sailing one fine day and not  come back." urged Huahuala'a. "You make it sound so easy that I'm sure there must be something wrong with the plan." grumbled Ulenuiloa. "Does anybody live there ?"  "I think there are some priests taking care of the heiau .[temples]." "Doesn't sound very safe to me."  "I've been around the island. There are some uninhabited stretches of shore with good beaches where I doubt anyone goes. Say you'll go there with me, Ipo."  "You know wherever you go, I'll go, even if it's to the grave."  'Then it's settled."

   Huahuala'a and Ulenuiloa avoided each other for several days while the prince surreptitiously provisioned his boat for the trip. Then, one sunny morning, they went sailing together as thay had many times before. The sail to Mokukapu was pleasant and uneventful. During idle moments, the two youths masturbated each other. On the northwest side of the island, they found an inviting stretch of deserted beach. Huahuala'a studied the pattern of the waves on the surface for a while and concluded that there were no reefs near the surface. So, they sailed in and beached the ama. They explored this part of the island and found no signs of habitation and no heiaus. Having built a small fire on the beach, they caught some fish and had it with poi for their supper. After sunset, they fell into each other's arms and began to enjoy sex. 

   Except for a few brief naps, the rest of the night was devoted to sex. Ulenuiloa sucked Huahuala'a's ule and stuffed the prince's 'Okole [rectum] with his own very large ule. Between sex acts, they kissed, embraced, and groped each other. Their sighs and cries of ecstasy floated on the warm night air. By dawn, they were pretty well exhausted and slept most of the morning. Both of the youths realized that this idyll couldn't last. A day of reckoning was bound to come eventually . Neither of them was willing to discuss it or even think about it and spoil their happiness.

    Huahuala'a had reasoned that even if anyone suspected that they had gone to Mokukapu, no one would dare pursue them there, such was the kapu of the island. They had been on the island for about a lunar month when a large ama passed the northwestern corner of the island and Huahuala'a's ama was sighted. Three days later, an ama carrying a dozen muscular kahunas pulled up to the beech. It was not, of course, kapu for the kahunas to land on the island and they came ashore, seized, and bound the two young men.     

   It was kapu enough to lay hands on the prince, and so, no one had bothered to search him. How much can a man wearing only a malo [loincloth] conceal ? Prince Huahuala'a had with him a prized possession, a knife with a blade of green volcanic glass. This was tucked under the cord which supported his loincloth and covered by the bib of the loincloth in front.Ulenuiloa was naked when they took him and his generous genital endowment brought admiring comments from the crew of the ama. 

   A day later, they stood before an angry, and at the same time, sad King Kameloa, who stood towering more than a head above his very tall son, a giant compared to all the others gathered there."Even the King cannot pardon very gross breaches of kapu. They are not merely violations of law and custom, but an offense to the gods and as such imperil the welfare of the entire people." You have violated kapu by visiting the sacred island and by indulging in forbidden acts of sex.I ask you now, Huahuala'a to answer me honestly. Have you yielded your 'okole to penetration by Ulenuiloa's ule ?" "Yes, father." replied Huahuala'a with downcast eyes.

   "Then you are both accursed. Ulenuiloa must die and you are unfit to succeed me as king."  "If you slay Ulenuiloa, I shall leap into Halemaumau as a sacrifice to Pele." "You must not even think of doing that . It would offend Pele and endanger the island and all its inhabitants."  "I refuse to live without Ulenuiloa. In one way or another, I shall take my life as soon as I am free to move about, if you slay him. I am quite willing to forfeit my succession to the kingship to my dear little kaikaina [younger brother] and, if you spare Ulenuiloa, I shall forfeit my manhood in token of my unfitness to rule." If he is spared, it is Ulenuiloa who, having polluted the body of the heir to the crown who should be gelded."

    Without a further word, Huahuala'a reached under the bib of his loincloth, grasped the glass knife, cut the cord supporting his loincloth , and before anyone could stop him, cut off his once-sacred testicles with it. "Now, let me be called " 'A'ohehuahua"

[no testicles]. Seeing the sacrifice which his son had made for his lover, the king relented and said. "Wrong-headed though you be, you will always be my beloved son. As you love him that much, I pardon Ulenuiloa. The two of you may go anywhere you wish,

except the Sacred Island, and live together. Now the healer will attend to your wound.. May the gods bless you, 'A'ohehuahua."
